Vanessa Hilts was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and a minor in African-American Studies. Following a successful career in the insurance industry, Vanessa moved to Detroit in 2002. Coming from a family dedicated to public service—her husband Alan served in the US Navy and her uncle Donald retired from the air US Air Force after 35 years--Vanessa is passionate about helping others, especially the elderly, the homebound, veterans, and the disabled.
Vanessa began working with older adults in the Detroit area. She conducted extensive interviews with seniors about their specific needs, made community presentations at senior living facilities, and volunteered in the community. Vanessa discovered that many seniors were not aware of the vast array of community resources that were available to them. These resources would enable seniors to maintain their independence. Thus, Total One Resources was established. Its mission statement is to “educate the community about valuable resources through outreach programs that promote good health and healthy living”.
Since its inception in 2010, Total One Resources has serviced thousands of clients in the metro Detroit area through community outreach. Services provided include educational workshops, recreational activities, social work counseling, chore services, medication assistance, insurance reviews, nutritional assistance, and transportation. These services would have not have possible without financial assistance from area businesses, non-profit agencies, community organizations, and private individuals. Partnering with organizations and businesses remains a primary goal of Total One Resources. Additional partnering will allow Total One Resources to provide additional services.
“Seniors and veterans have always had a special place in my heart. Seniors are precious jewels as they represent living history. Veterans have sacrificed much to keep our country safe and strong. I never want my clients to have to make a decision between paying for their rent or paying for their prescriptions. My job is to make their life easier.”
Total One Resources is designed to provide a positive influence to help seniors, the homebound, veterans, the disabled, and their families create a better quality of life and to become more active in their communities. Please share your time, talents, and resource with those in need. The satisfaction you will receive in return is priceless! We look forward to hearing from you. Please call us at 248-968-9508.
